So if you read some of your favorite southern blogger blogs, I am sure you have seen some Gameday posts. We take our football really serious down here and we are all gearing up for Saturday. Tara wrote some great posts here, Kelly wrote about it here, and Leslie wrote a fun one this week here. Reading those blogs, you will learn that we like to dress up for every game whether we are tailgating and going to the game or just watching with friends at home. When I say dress up, it is anywhere between a cute team fitted top to a dress and heels!
I know from some emails I have received, some of yall just don't feel that is practical to wear a dress to your son's football game, your NCAA game, or tailgate, but want some help in what to wear as a Suburban Strutter :). I am not arguing with you about practicality or going to try to get you to wear a tight dress and heels :). Shane and I have tailgated for years and the times I was dressed over the top, I was not as comfy. BUT, before my southern home girls disown me, I still feel like we can dress up and be comfy and practical. I mean that is the Suburban Strut mantra, right? :)
The key is to wear your team colors in what you already feel comfortable. Always buy your team colors. Red is our color here in Hog Country, so anytime we find a piece of clothing we like, we always look to see if it is available in red. Your outfit does not have to scream your team; it just needs to include the team colors. So if you have a favorite shirt, or scarf, look for it in that color. That way, when you dress for the games, you will have pieces you actually enjoy wearing and you know is comfortable. BUT this does not mean to wear an oversized, no shape tshirt...y'all know better than that!!
Also, look for fun shirts. We are lucky here to have so many boutiques that carry fashionable Hog gear. I am sure other SEC areas, have the same, but I love our selection. We also have shirts made. I know that we all are good at having tops made for kids, but you could also have shirts made for you as well. There are many games a year and they happen every year, so as long as you get one that fits, these can be worn every year and are worth stocking in your closet.
So because our team is red and better than your team (I KID...kind of :) ), here are some fun pieces in red that would work for any game that are still stylish, but very practical and easy to wear...
These are all from Old Navy - They have tons of colors in each top that you could wear for your team. Add a face tattoo or pin of your mascot and you will have the perfect outfit. If you have a color that is hard to find, try to find accessories (necklace, scarf, etc.) that match and then just wear a black, gray or white top with it. All of these would look cute with the perfect jeans or colored skinnies. Again, these are easy wear because they are just like your everyday outfits. ALWAYS BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR YOUR TEAM COLORS!! Pick them up every time!
These are all some cute options from local boutiques (Riffraff and Impressions) - The tops and that cute dress are super comfy and look adorable on! If you don't have these kinds of options, go look at other team options all over facebook and pinterest and take them to a local monogram place and design your own. Take one of your favorite solid tops (like a vintage v neck or fitted tshirt) and have them customize it. You don't have to look like you are wearing your dance or cheer camp top from the 90's :), there are tons of great examples out there.
One last thing to remember - shoes!! This is very important for games and tailgates! I love my red Toms, classic and wedges, red converse and flat boots. Try to wear something that is not just your running shoes.
So I hope that helped!! If you have a specific team color that you are having a hard time matching, email me or leave me a comment with your email and I will help ya! I know that yall are going to know the socks off the other moms and tailgaters :)...
Before I leave though...wooooooooooooo pig sooie!!
