Fall Transition - Top 3 Must Haves

Hey y'all! The thing that women are all saying in unison right now is "I just don't know how to dress this time of year!". Well, I am going to help you out today!

I am going to be honest, one of my pet peeves is when one is not dressed for the season.  The last thing we want to do at every season change though, is go buy a new wardrobe. Well, let me rephrase that...We would love to go buy a new wardrobe at every season change, we just can't afford to...if we want to still feed the kids :).  You don't need to buy a whole new wardrobe, you can just add layers to your current fun outfits.  The key is to just add the correct colors and textures that can take your summer items and make them Fall-ish.

So let's take one of my token outfits:
Bright colored  jeans, vintage v-neck tee, metallic sandals, and a bubble necklace (I am wearing a cardi here, but it is a summer one)

Now, how can I take this same outfit and change it for Fall? Like this:

I did switch out the gray shirt for black, but still the same concept.  I added a black button down, unbuttoned, scarf and wedges.  Same outfit - totally different looks.

The key is to add warmer colors and textures. You want to add layers to your top. Add a cardigan, denim jacket, button down, or a blazer. I know it is not cool everywhere, so layering is perfect.  Roll up or push up the sleeves, or wear 3/4 length, or short sleeves even. The goal is add texture to your outfit.

Scarves are the best right now. You can find lightweight ones that are still fall colors and they will add an instant Fall feeling. There are a million ways to wear a scarf and that's another post in itself :).  Even if you just take that summer outfit and add a warm color scarf, it will look Fall-ish without the cardi or jacket.  Don't be afraid to still wear necklaces with scarves. They can peak through at the bottom or wear a short one that will be seen on top at your neck. Easy enough, right?

I know many of you are worried about how to wear all the bright necklaces and jeans from the summer into the Fall. Again, the key is to warm it up. Of course, Fall is just starting so I don't have a lot of examples of me specifically, but I did find a few on Pinterest...

The thing to look at is the color combinations. You can add creams, browns, blacks, tans, oranges, navy, etc to make a bright color look Fall ready. Trust me, I am not retiring all my bright colors just because it is August, so you will see me doing this.

So my top three things everyone needs to transition their current wardrobe for Fall:

  1. Cardigans - pick up everyone you see that you like.  The good things about cardigans, they can be worn through Winter and then Spring.  Get your basic colors.  Everyone should have an awesome black one and camel one they love.  Colors and prints are fun too - just don't spend too much on them because you won't wear them as often at the basics.
  2. Scarves - again, pick up everyone you like!  Everyone needs a good black one, tan one, and Leopard!  Trust me, get a leopard one!!!  They are everywhere. I will post later on ways to wear scarves.  Right now, focus on not too heavy ones and get long ones.
  3. Denim Jacket - You probably notice that I wear mine all the time.  A denim jacket goes with everything and is perfect for cool nights.  You can get one at Old Navy for $30 that you will wear the heck out of.  They look great with dresses, colored pants, maxi skirts, like I said everything.

Hope that helped and y'all are now ready to start embracing Fall!  If you still have any questions or need help finding something - leave me your email in a comment or email me (email button at the top right).

Get to struttin'!

Thank you so much! This is the hardest time of the year for me to figure out what to wear. You've given me a lot to think about when I'm in a long procedure at work :). So I can still wear my lime green jeans? I feel like that's a very summery color. Please advise! ;)

Layers for fall are my favorite! Cannot wait for your scarve post! I feel like they look so silly on me and therefore never wear them.

I love scarves and just picked up a cute leopard print one at...walmart! It was under four bucks and they had several prints and solids to choose from. At that price, it would be worth the money for anybody to get one, even if they weren't sure that they were a scarf person! I usually stick with solid colors and look for fun textures or details, but kept telling myself that Rachel said I needed it! It's a nice length and lightweight so I think it will be great year round.
